Former Covington Cafeteria Worker Dies At Age 81

Mrs. Mary Ann Crawford Martin, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, age 81, of Covington, Virginia, died Friday, August 30, 2013, at the Brian Center Rehabilitation and Nursing Care.

She was the wife of the late John Henry "Junior" Martin, Jr. who preceded her in death in 2008.

Mrs. Martin was born December 24, 1931 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late John Henry Crawford and Estelle Florence Craft Crawford.

She was a lifetime member of this community and was employed as a cafeteria worker in the Covington School System, retiring with twenty-one years of service.

Mary Ann was a member of Grace Brethren Church.

She was a life member of the Women of the Moose and most enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, camping and "NASCAR".

Mrs. Martin is survived by three daughters, Debrah Ann Martin, Linda Dianne Martin Campbell and Billy Osborne, and Brenda Gail Martin Perkins Shawver and husband, Max, all of Covington; four grandchildren, Keri Leigh Armontrout, Scott Henry Campbell, Jessica Maree Perkins and Shawn Martin Perkins; three great grandchildren, Austin Tyler Lutz, Gavin Scott Campbell and Martin Wayne Campbell; one brother, Melvin Berkley Crawford of New Castle; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by seven siblings, Myrtle Ellis, Betty Wood, Sarah Jane Swartz, James Crawford, Gordon Crawford, Robert Crawford and Phillip Crawford.

A funeral service will be conducted Monday, September 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Gillette officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be church members and members of her family.

The family received friends on Sunday evening September 1, 2013 at Loving Funeral Home and at other times at the residences of Brenda G. Martin Perkins Shawver, 732 W. Parklin Dr., Covington.
