Obituary for Dewey Holeston (Bo) O_Conner, Jr. Dewey Holeston (Bo) O_Conner, Jr.
Lifelong Covington Resident Was Army Veteran, Longtime Insurance Agent

Mr. Dewey Holeston (Bo) O_Conner, Jr., age 77, of Covington, Virginia, died Thursday, October 3, 2013, at the Golden Living Center, Clifton Forge.

He was the husband of Carolyn Shinault O'Conner.

Mr. O'Conner was born April 22, 1936 in Covington, the son of the late Dewey Holeston OÕConner, Sr. and Mable Spangler O'Conner.

He was a lifetime member of this community.

Bo was a graduate of Covington High School, where he was a gifted athlete, excelling in football, basketball and baseball.

He was also a graduate of Emory and Henry College, where he lettered four years in football and baseball.

Mr. O'Conner served his country as a member of the United States Army, stationed in Germany.

Bo was employed as an insurance agent by Nationwide Insurance Company, retiring after a number of years of service and also retired from the main golf course at the Homestead.

He was a member of Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church.

Mr. O'Conner was a former member of the Covington Fire Department and the Covington Rescue Squad.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting and was an avid golfer.

In addition to his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Shinault O'Conner, Mr. O'Conner is survived by one son, Timothy Michael O'Conner of Covington; one daughter, Lee Ann Lowery and husband, David of Gloucester; four grandchildren, Mackenzie Denby of Williamsburg, VA, Ryan Denby of Miami, FL, Cade Lowery of Gloucester and Jordan Lowery of Gloucester; two sisters, Peggy Dawson and husband, Jack of Belle Vernon, PA and Delores Matheny of Mechanicsville; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Bo was preceded in death by one son, Patrick Mitchell O'Conner and two sisters, Rita Jordan and Pauline Hocker.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 7, 2013, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. James M. Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Graveside rites will be conducted by the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Denby, Cade Lowery, Austin Peery, Mike Matheny, Mark Matheny, Richard "Huck" Tyree, and Bill Jonas. Alternate pallbearers will be Bill Wilson and Bruce Proffitt.

The family received friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.
