Robert Gene Smith, 59, of 316 Hickory Hill, Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, October 4, 2013,in Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem.

Mr.Smith was born February 11, 1954, in Covington, a son of Bobby Smith of Covington and the late Betty Lair Smith.

He was a retired operator at the MeadWestvaco converting plant in Low Moor.

He was a member of the Good News Fellowship Church.

Surviving in addition to his Father are two daughters, Jennifer Mundy and her husband, Chris, of Covington, and Katie Smith of Salem; one grandson, Jayden Mundy, of Covington; one brother, Chris Smith of Covington; one sister, Linda Higgins and her husband, Billy, of Covington; and two nephews, Hunter Smith and Will Smith, both of Covington.

The funeral service was held Tuesday evening at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with Pastor Linda Kagarise officiating.
