Navy Veteran Was Pearl Harbor Attack Survivor, Retired MeadWestvaco Millwright

Frank Herbert Anderson, age 95 of 711 W. Jackson Street, Covington, Virginia, died Friday October 11, 2013 at his residence.

He was born August 8, 1918 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late Frank Martin Anderson and Mary Faye Fisher Anderson.

He retired from Westvaco as a millwright with 37 years of service.

He was a member of the South Covington United Methodist Church, and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served on the USS Helm, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Mae Nicely Anderson; two sisters, Ruby Della Anderson Patterson and Catherine Virginia Mays; two brothers, Floyd Marion Anderson and Carl Woodrow Anderson.

He is survived by two sons, Corbin Anderson and wife, Jean Ann, and Dale Anderson and wife, Toni, both of Covington; a sister, Mary Gladys Haynes of Clifton Forge; two brothers, Graham Lewis Anderson and Earl Edward Anderson, also of Clifton Forge; two grandchildren, Donovan Anderson and wife, Autumn, and Erin Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Remington Anderson and Ryder Anderson, and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held on Monday, October 14, at 12:00 noon in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with the Reverend Chuck Cole officiating. Interment ollowed at Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers were Mike Pettit, Ray Lipes, Jerry Whitehead, Pat Harrah, Jimmy Haynes, Buddy Sizemore, and Glenn Mays.

The family received friends on Monday from 10:30 a.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home.
