Retired Acadia Polymers Millroom Operator Dies At Age 69

Elbie Douglas (Wayne) Hoke, Jr., 69, of 7000 Ogles Creek Road, Covington, Virginia, died Friday, October 11, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Hoke was born January 19, 1944, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Elbie Hoke, Sr. and Wilma Buckland Hoke.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Hoke, in 1987, and his first wife, Brenda Hoke in 1997.

He retired from Acadia Polymers as a millroom operator.

He was an active member of the United Baptist Church on Ogles Creek and was an avid outoorsman.

Surviving are his wife, Wanda Kidd Hoke of Covington; his daughter, Tammy Starkey and her husband, Charles, of New Orleans, LA; two sons, Michael Hoke and his wife, Stacy, of Clifton Forge and Adam Hoke and his fiance, Sheena McCarty, of Covington; a step-daughter, Lena Deacon and her husband, Robert, of Natural Bridge; eight grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three sisters, Jean Eppard of Waynesboro, Faye Malcom and her husband, Butch, and Vannessa Robertson and her husband, Lonnie, all of Covington; a number of nieces and nephews and special friends including Buddy Vass, Jessie O'Conner, Juanita Pace and his church family.

The family received their friends Sunday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Jason Cochran officiating.

Interment will be made in the Hokes Chapel Cemetery.
