William Hugh Highlander, 70, of Covington, formerly of Anderson WV, passed away, Monday October 14, 2013 at the Brian Center in Low Moor.

Hugh was employed by former Hercules Inc. for 40 years.

His hard work and sacrifice enabled his children to enjoy a comfortable lifestyle that he never knew.

Hugh's great heart breaks were the loss of his infant daughter, Sandra Gail in 1976 and the passing of his beloved wife of 48 years, Shirley Louise Phillips Highlander in 2009.

His greatest accomplishments were his children, Terry and Bill.

Surviving are a daughter, Terry and Kevin Wood, and a son USAF Master Sergeant, Retired, Bill and Monique Highlander, are saddened by their loss, yet honored for the years they had with him.

Hugh's most joyous times were with his grandchildren, "Pawpaw's Pal's, USAF A1C, Tyler J. Wood, USAF SrA Trevor K. Wood, USAF Amn Stephanie R. Highlander, Ms. Shelby L. Highlander and Mrs. Kaitlyn M. Wood.

He is also survived by his brother, USAF Captain, retired Paul E. and Vickie Highlander.

The family would like to express their gratitude to neighbor, Margaret Dunbar, The Brain Center, Penny White and her staff and hospice nurse, Carolyn Snyder for their support.

Family and friends will celebrate HughÕs life at a gathering on a future date.
