Korea War Veteran Was Retired Machinst, CXL Conductor

George Franklin (Pete) Kimberlin, age 84, of 1050 Vulcan Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at his residence.

He was born July 4, 1929 in Covington, Virginia, to the late James Samuel Kimberlin, Sr. and Hester Ann Persinger Kimberlin.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War, was a retired machinist and conductor for CSX Transportation, and a retired mechanic for Clifton Forge Motor Company.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Covington, and enjoyed blue grass music, farming, and helping others.

He loved his family and grandchildren and was affectionately known to many as "Uncle Pete".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Margaret Clark Kimberlin in 2011; two sisters, Hattie Ellen Kimberlin Bush and Leona Kimberlin Lavender; and five brothers, Arnold Leroy Kimberlin, William "Jaybird" Kimberlin, James "Nook" Kimberlin, Leonard "Wink" Kimberlin and Roy E. Kimberlin.

He is survived by three daughters, Diane Kouns and husband, Mark of Eagle Rock, Donna Cross and husband, Reggie of Millboro, and Tammy Wright and husband, Kevin of Clifton Forge; two sons, Tim Kimberlin and wife, Donna, and Tony Kimberlin and wife, Angie, both of Clifton Forge; a sister, Lillie Mays of Covington; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Hoke of Clifton Forge and Lorraine Kimberlin of Eagle Rock; a brother-in-law, Fred Clark and wife, Esther of Clifton Forge; eight grandchildren, Heath Kouns and wife, Penny, Matthew Bowser and wife, Michele, Toby Kouns and wife, Tawanna, Jeremy Bowser and wife, Kari, Krista Craft and husband, Josh, Timothy Kimberlin, Jr., Rebecca Kimberlin and Rachel Kimberlin; eleven great grandchildren, Logan, Jakob, Leah, Calvin, Eli, Anna, Brady, Gabriel, Cole, Marlie and Mandolin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He also leaves behind his beloved dog Tracker.

A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. in First Christian Church, Covington with Reverend Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Church, Clifton Forge. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge and other times at the residence.
