Obituary for William Clay Phillips William Clay Phillips
Phillips Refrigeration Owner Was Covington Native

Mr. William Clay Phillips, age 67, of 1301 Gravel Ridge Drive, Covington, Virginia, died October 24, 2013, at his residence.

He was the husband of Virgie Crowder Phillips.

Bill was born October the 10, 1946 in Covington, the son of the late Roy Mayo Phillips and Virginia Reynolds Phillips.

He worked in the family business, Phillips Refrigeration, with his father and mother and succeeded his father as owner of the family business.

Bill loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most enjoyed working around his home on Snake Run and watching wild life.

He is survived by his wife, Virgie Crowder Phillips; family members, Megan Phillips, Hope Nicely, Susan Looney and Christin McDuffie; two grandchildren, Nolan Nicely III and Asher Nicely; two sisters, Patty Phillips Carter and husband, Richard of Lancaster, SC and Jeanne Phillips Craft of Raleigh, NC; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Robert Campbell, Jesse Carter and many others too numerous to name.

A funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday October 26 at Edgemont Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church with Rev. Donnie Bowker officiating assisted by Rev. Dr. William M. Harris Jr., Dr. Rich Melin, Rev. Buddy Burks and Rev. Stan Sizemore. Interment followed in Carter Cemetery, Gravel Ridge Drive, formerly Snake Run.

Active pallbearers were Robert Campbell, Jesse Carter, Mike OÕFarrell, John Williams, Richie Carter, Paul Graham and Rich Carter. Alternate pallbearers were Richie Kimberlin and Gary Kimberlin.

The family received friends Friday evening at Loving Funeral Home.

The family suggests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society care of Mrs. Karen Buzzard, 807 McCormick Boulevard, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422 or Mountain Regional Hospice, P. O. Box 637 Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
