Lorraine Nadine Letheby Lemmer departed this life on October 23, 2013 in Lexington, Virginia.

She was born to Francis and Edna Zickert Letheby, the second oldest of five children. She just celebrated her 89th birthday.

Lorraine was raised in South Beloit, Illinois, and graduated in 1942 from South Beloit High School. In 1944, she married a high school classmate, Glen Lemmer, who was in the U.S. Navy. The couple raised their family in Mt. Morris, IL, and Lorraine was immersed in their three children's activities.

She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. Later, she and Glen moved to Chicago.

Lorraine was an excellent seamstress with an eye for fine detail and classic fashion. She designed the wedding party dresses for her daughter's wedding and fashioned her own outfits for her sons' weddings. In later years, she worked as an executive secretary at St. Francis Hospital, Evanston, Illinois.

In 2003, Lorraine moved to Lexington, VA, where she loved the change in climate. She was a member of the Rockbridge Area Master Gardeners and assisted with the group's project at the Buena Vista Visitor Center.

Her Poyntz Place neighbors were especially supportive and she particularly enjoyed trick or treating by the neighborhood children and viewing the 4th of July fireworks from her deck, followed by generous servings of ice cream.

She liked Celtic music and keeping track of her favorite NASCAR driver. She was very proud of her children and noted that her four grandsons were BSA Eagle scouts.

She was predeceased by Glen and her parents, her brother, Ronald Letheby, her sister Beverly Watson, her brother-in-law, Jack Croake, and her sister-in-law, Shirley Letheby.

She is survived by daughter, Sherry and husband, Ron Hollinger of St. Augustine, FL; her sons and spouses, Keith and Lucia Lemmer of Chesterton, IN and Greg and Janet Lemmer of Lexington, VA. Additional survivors are her four grandsons and their families: Brad, Tina, Troy and Mallory Hollinger, Jacksonville, FL, Tim, Lorraine, Ben and Nolan Hollinger, Fleming Island, FL, Scott, Tyler and Andrew Lemmer of Lexington, VA and Jack Lemmer of Chesterton, IN. Survivors include her sister, Lois Croake, Tarpon Springs, FL, her brother Dewey Letheby, and her brother-in-law, Nick Watson, both of Beloit, WI; her beloved nieces and nephews and other family members.

She also is remembered by special loved ones, Kelly Lemmer and Jerimia, Jamie and Jasmine Fritcher.

The family appreciates the caring support shown to them, especially by Dr. Karen Lyons and Dr. William Sayre and their staffs, The Rev. Connie W. Gilman, Meals for Shut-Ins and the staff at Heritage Hall, The Mayflower and the Rockbridge Area Hospice.

Memorials may be sent to: Waddell Elementary Roots and Shoots Garden, 100 Pendleton Drive, Lexington VA 24450, Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington VA 24450 or your own favorite charity.

Services were held Friday, November 1 at 11 o'clock a.m. at Harrison Funeral and Crematory, Lexington, with reception to follow.
