Longtime South Covington United Methodist Church Member Dies At Age 99

Mereta (Sis) Huffman Williams, 99, of 1020 West Jackson Street in Covington, died November 22, 2013, in Lewis-Gale Alleghany Hospital at Low Moor.

Mrs. Williams was born June 5, 1914, at Springwood in Botetourt County, a daughter of the late James A. and Nazie Paxton Huffman.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall S. Williams, in 1984; two brothers, Leslie Huffman and Dorsey Huffman, and three sisters, Anna Lee H. Switzer, Nora H. Miller and Tincie H. Campbell.

She was a longtime member of South Covington United Methodist Church.

Mereta was a remarkable woman, still able to live independently in her home at 99 years of age. She always had a smile on her face and loved welcoming family and friends to her home.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including Willard Campbell of Catawba, Gary Reynolds of Covington, and Sue Brinkley of Roanoke.

The funeral service will be held Sunday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at the graveside in Alleghany Memorial Park with the Rev. Chuck Cole officiating.

Family and friends will gather at Arritt Funeral Home prior to going to the cemetery for the service.

The family suggest that donation in Mrs. William's name be made to the South Covington United Methodist Church, 1911 S. Kadel Ave., Covington, VA 24426
