Member Of Epworth United Methodist Church Dies At Age 72

Richard Wayne (Rick) VanBuren , 72, of 1203 Richmond Street, Selma, Virginia, died Tuesday, December 10, 2013, at the Lewis Gale Hospital - Alleghany in Low Moor, Virginia.

He was born in Clifton Forge, Virginia, on February 16, 1941, a son of the late Denny W. VanBuren, Sr. and Martha L. Norvell VanBuren.

He was a retired chef working at various restaurants throughout his life. He was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church in Selma, Virginia.

He is survived by a brother, Denny W. VanBuren, Jr. and his wife, Peggy, of Salem, Virginia; 2 nieces, Debra J. Byron and Barbara L. Ganas; and a nephew, Roy J. Simpson.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Lula Belle Simpson.

A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday afternoon at 1:00 P.M. from the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, Virginia, with Rev. Ray Tucker and Rev. Dan Purdon officiating.

Interment will be made in Mountain View Cemetery in Clifton Forge, Virginia.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12:00 P.M. until time of the service and following the service at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Epworth United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 190, Selma, Virginia 24474.
