Vietnam War Veteran Dies At Age 70

Dallas Eugene (Hooks) Jefferson, 70, of 922 Girard Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Monday December 9, 2013, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.

He was born March 2, 1943 in Glen Wilton, Virginia, a son of the late Mary Jefferson.

He was a member of Main Street Baptist Church in Clifton Forge, a former member of the John W. Barnes Masonic Lodge #305, a Cowboys Fan, and a former employee of Mizzy, Inc.. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a grandmother, Lucille Jefferson; three uncles, John H. Jefferson, Benjamin Jefferson, and Curtis E. Jefferson, Sr.; and four aunts, Gertrude Jefferson, Effie Jefferson, Agnes Blakey, and Edna Wallace.

He is survived by an aunt, Chris Jefferson Jones and husband, Richard, of Covington; an uncle, Clevie Wallace, of Clifton Forge; eight cousins, Patrice Coles, of Clifton Forge, Sonya Billups, of Vinton, Curtis Jefferson, Jr., of Covington, Brian Jefferson and wife, Barbara, of Covington, Stephania Hunter and husband, Roger, of Clifton Forge, Dionne Moore and husband, Keith, of Covington, Mark Jefferson, of Clifton Forge, and Gina Neamo, of Roanoke; and a host of second cousins and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, Virginia, with the Reverend Matthew T. Barnette, Sr. and the Reverend Preston Tyler officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery in Glen Wilton, Virginia.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 noon until the time of the service at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence of 922 Girard Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia.
