Obituary for Myrtle Ray Knick Layton Myrtle Ray Knick Layton
Homemaker Was Former Clifton Forge Resident

Myrtle Ray Knick Layton, age 74, of Life Care Center in Banner Elk, North Carolina, and formerly of Verge Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Sunday, December 29, 2013 at Life Care Center.

She was born January 20, 1939 in Clifton Forge to the late Thomas and Zelma Clark Knick.

She was a homemaker and a past member of Central Advent Christian Church.

She was a loyal fan of the Washington Redskins and the Atlanta Braves, and a loving mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Layton; two sisters, Jane Keen and Merle Wilhelm; and three brothers, Richard Knick, Dewey Knick and Arnold Knick.

She is survived by a daughter, Katherine Howard and husband, Joe of Clifton Forge; a son, Michael Layton and wife, Betty of Clifton Forge; three grandchildren, Matthew Walton, Samantha Puffenbarger and Julie Layton; two great grandchildren, Cassidy Puffenbarger and Gunner Michael Puffenbarger; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Gene Peters officiating.

Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Timmy Puffenbarger, Jerry Snook, Eddie Smith, Greg Vess, Kenny Carroll and Ronnie Boothe.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Central Advent Christian Church, 3515 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
