Obituary for Jean Ingeborg Fowler Wolfe Jean Ingeborg Fowler Wolfe
Canada Native Was Former Stonewall Jackson Hospital Director Of Volunteers

Jean Wolfe passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family at 81.

She was born in Toronto Canada, raised in London, England, and came to Lexington, Va. in 1940 after the fall of France.

Educated at the Hockaday School of Dallas, Texas, and the University of Vermont, she lived in Greenwich, Connecticut and returned to Lexington in 1979.

She was employed by Stonewall Jackson Hospital, as Director of Volunteers and Director of Recreation until her retirement.

In retirement she traveled frequently and was active in many political and civic organizations.

She served as District President of General Federation of Women's Club and supporting the Lexington chapter; she was a board member of the Virginia Frontier Chapter of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, Unit Chairman Republican Committee, and as a delegate to numerous Republican and Women's Club conventions.

She was married to Richard C. Wolfe and they had four children, Stewart C. Wolfe of Richmond Va., Andrew P. Wolfe of Buena Vista, Va., Sara W. Meyer of Jupiter, Fla. and Christopher M. Wolfe of Derry, N.H.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul S. and Ella C. Fowler of Lexington; her sisters, Sarah Fowler of Toronto, Canada, Alta Fowler, also of Lexington; and brother, Gordon Fowler of Mt. Olive, N.C.

She is survived by her children and her sister, Paula Franklin of State College, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at the R. E. Lee Episcopal Church, Lexington, 11 a.m. Saturday, January 11, 2014 with a reception to follow at the Parish Hall. A private internment will follow at the Fowler family plot, Stonewall Jackson Cemetery, Lexington. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Community Table for Rockbridge.
