Obituary for Jerry Degraw Youmans Jerry Degraw Youmans
Retired National Cash Register Field Engineer Was Former Gun Shop Owner

Jerry Degraw Youmans, age 68, of 190 River View Drive, Verona, Virginia, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

Jerry was born March 5, 1945 in Clifton Forge, Virginia, to the late Charlie Degraw Youmans and Frances Via Youmans.

He retired as field engineer for National Cash Register after thirty-five years, and was owner/operator of Jerry's Gun Shop, also working for Nuckols Gun Shop in Staunton.

He was a member of Griffith Knob Hunt Club, where he had served as past President and Secretary for many years, and the Stonewall Rifle and Pistol Club.

He was active in the Boy Scouts of America, and was an avid outdoorsman who loved the serenity of his second home at Griffith in Bath County, Virginia.

Spending time working outdoors was never "work" for Jerry, because he had fun doing it, and was known by all for his great sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Garrett Youmans of Verona; a son, Jonathan Youmans of Barton, MD; a sister, Joyce Ann Higgins and husband Ken of Fredericksburg; two grandchildren, Nicole Youmans and Kassity Youmans; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tim and Debbie Blackburn of Clifton Forge. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, January 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Bill Hartsfield officiating. Interment followed in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers were Tad Blackburn, Jonathan Blackburn, Andy Blackburn, Calvin Hurt, Thurman "Curley" Smith, Shawn Cook, Mike Wills, Tony Simpson and Todd Via. The family received friends Wednesday afternoon at Nicely Funeral Home.
