Obituary for Larry Kenneth (Cowboy) Burns Larry Kenneth (Cowboy) Burns
MeadWestvaco Retiree Was Master Gunsmith, Hunter Safety Instructor

Mr. Larry Kenneth (Cowboy) Burns, age 70, of Clifton Forge, passed away Thursday, January 9, 2014, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke.

Mr. Burns was born July 21, 1943 in Detroit, MI, the son of the late Stanley Crawford Burns and Margaret Carr Burns.

Raised in Highland County, he came to Covington and went to work for Westvaco as an operator in the Carbon Plant, retiring after 34 years of service.

He was a master gunsmith and served this community for many years as a hunter safety instructor.

Larry was an avid motorcycle rider and was very proud of the fact that he was able to tour 49 states, Canada and Mexico. He was a wonderful cook who also enjoyed reading in his spare time.

Larry is survived by one son, Roger Dean Burns and wife, Dianna; one daughter, Leigh Ann Burns; his "#2" son, Clay Hayslett; his grandson, "the apple of his eye", Brandon David Burns; Leigh AnnŐs "kids", Schuyler, John, Jessie, Ethan and Ty; one sister, Wanda Burns Hause and husband, Earl; one nephew, Kenneth Hause; the mother of his children, Sue Martin Burns; a number of cousins including special ones, Joy Mullens and "Big" Roger Burns; and numerous dear friends and loved ones in the community.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 13, 2014, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Clay Hayslett, "Big" Roger Burns, Bob Martin, John Fury, Ethan Berry, and Ty Edwards.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. at Loving Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Patient Emergency Fund, Dialysis Center, 2504 Valley Ridge Road, Covington, VA 24426.
