Mrs. Juanita Ayers Bartley, age 88, of Covington, Virginia, died January 10, 2014, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor, VA.

She was the wife of the late Virgil C. Bartley.

Mrs. Bartley was born March 22, 1925 in Rockbridge County, the daughter of the late James Edgar Ayers and Minnie Mutespaugh Ayers.

A lifetime resident of this community, she was employed as an operator by the former Industrial Rayon.

Juanita was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church, the Little Page Bible Class, Circle #1 and the Home Demonstration Club. She was also an honorary life member and past president of the Women of the Church.

Mrs. Bartley is survived by two sons, Charles Allen "Chuck" Bartley and wife, Jean and Gary Wayne Bartley and wife, Vicki; two daughters, Priscilla Bartley Downer and husband, Richard, and Lisa Bartley Shinault and husband, Donnie, all of Covington; nine grandchildren, Richard Michael Downer, Jr., Alan Wayne Downer, Mark Edward Downer, Amanda Jean Bartley Webb, Jeremy Charles Bartley, Travis Wayne Bartley, Alania Michelle Bartley Lowman, Brandon Lee Shinault and Nicole Faith Shinault Eggleston; twenty-three great grandchildren, Jacob Michael Downer, Jared Ryan Downer, Joshua Adam Stone, Holden Patrick Downer, Emily Paige Downer, Golda Caroline Downer, Aiden Michael Downer, Jack Lawrence Downer, Margaret Alexis Webb, Mikayla Lauren Webb, Rilee Kendal Webb, Lennox Cooper Webb, Levi Dixon Bartley, Hannah Elyse Bartley, Elyn Rose Bartley, Sophia Claire Bartley, Keely Grace Lowman, Kellen Jake Lowman, Kiera Jade Lowman, Benjamin Clarence Eggleston, Jordan Leigh Shinault, Sawyer Isaiah Eggleston and Kristian Hunter Shinault; one brother, James Henry Ayers and wife, Lee of Kerrs Creek; one sister-in-law, Beverly Ayers of Lexington; and one brother-in-law, Cleford Reynolds.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Bartley was preceded in death by Virgil Clarence Bartley, Jr.; three brothers, Charles Leroy Ayers, Fremont Ayers and Blair "B.B." Ayers; and two sisters, Carol Sue Eggleston and Lucille Reynolds.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 14, 2014, at McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Michael C. Fleenor officiating, assisted by Rev. Bill Gilliland. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday afternoon from noon until service time at the church and at other times at the residence, 3917 Jackson River Road, Covington.
