Amherst County Native Dies At Age 94

Nellie Staton Broughfman, 94, of Covington, Virginia, died Thursday, January 23, 2014.

She was born January 23, 1920 in Amherst County, a daughter of the late John W. and Georgie Wheeler Staton.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Broughfman was preceded in death by her husband, Earl C. Broughfman, Sr. in 1989 and also by four grandsons, seven brothers and two sisters.

Surviving are four daughters: Shirley Perkins and her husband, Thomas and Peggy Graham and her husband, John, all of Falling Springs; Daisy Durham and her husband, James of Warrenton and Linda Meadows and her husband, William of Covington; three sons, Earl C. Broughfman and his wife, Jeanie and Jesse Broughfman and his wife, Jennifer, all of Falling Springs, and Curtis Broughfman of Covington; a foster daughter, Crystal Gail Wolfe of New Castle; 50 plus great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren; one brother, John Staton of Lexington; friends, Bill and Frances Smith of Covington and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014 in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Staton officiating.

The interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be Mrs. Broughfman's granddaughters.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home and other times at the residence at Lot 113 Paloma Drive in High Acres.
