Obituary for Steve Allen (Pete) Hoke Steve Allen (Pete) Hoke
Alleghany County Native Was Logger All His Life

Steve Allen (Pete) Hoke, 57, of 6307 Uplands Road, Covington, Virginia, died Thursday, January 23, 2014 at his residence.

He was born February 3, 1956 in Alleghany County, a son of Daisy Caldwell Hoke Hicks of Covington, and the late Leon Hoke, Sr.

In addition to his Father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jody Hoke, and his beloved dog, Wimpy.

Pete was member of the Hoke Brothers Logging Company and had been a logger in the Alleghany Highlands all his life.

His passions were being outside, running bulldozers and setting on the front porch at his home.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his beloved wife, Kay Keyser Hoke of Covington; a daughter, Nicky Nicole Persinger and her husband, Aaron of Covington; three grandsons, Haydon Washburn; Nathon Washburn and A.J. Persinger, all of Covington; one granddaughter, Hanna Persinger of Covington; three brothers, Leon "Junior" Hoke, Jr. and his wife, Rhonda; Mike Hoke and his wife, Liz and Billy Hoke and his wife, Pam, all of Covington; several nieces and nephews; area loggers; special friend, Ron Smith of Covington, and special friend and brother-in-law, Jerry Keyser of Covington. The graveside service will be held Saturday, January 25, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Hoke Family Cemetery with Hugh Shifflett officiating. Active pallbearers will be Junior Hoke, Mike Hoke, Billy Hoke, Aaron Persinger, Ron Smith and Dennis Persinger. The family will receive friends Saturday from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at the Arritt Funeral Home. The online guest book is available at www.arrittfuneralhome.com.
