Longtime Area Newspaper Motor Route Carrier Dies At Age 59

Herbert Owen Persinger, 59, of 3610 Longdale Furnace Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Friday February 14, 2014 at the Brian Healthcare Center in Fincastle.

He was born November 18, 1954 in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late Conley Lee and Mary Sue Dotson Persinger.

He was a retired motor route carrier for both the Daily Review and Virginian Review Newspapers for many years.

His favorite thing to do was work his paper route visiting with his customers, especially helping the elderly and providing treats for the children.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Carolyn Persinger Lewis.

He is survived by his wife, Margie Cary Persinger; a daughter, Laura Stapleton and husband, Brian, of Moneta; five grandchildren: Anna and Steven Stapleton, of Moneta, Hunter Ray Smith, of Iron Gate, Ashley Stapleton, Miranda Stapleton, both of Buchannan; a great grandson, Riley Stapleton, of Moneta; a sister, Debby Persinger McDavid and husband, Jamie, of Clifton Forge; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roger and Cathy Hayslett, of Clifton Forge; two nieces, Jamie Dolly and husband, Kris, and Serena McDavid; a great-niece, Kaylynne McDavid; and a special friend, William (Willie) Hurt.

In keeping with his wishes his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel of Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge, with the Reverend Roger Bush officiating. Interment will be private.

The family will receive friends at Nicely Funeral Home on Saturday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service, and at other times at the residence of Cathy and Roger Hayslett 404 Wintergreen Ave., Clifton Forge.
