Retired Alleghany County Public School System Teacher's Assistant Dies At Age 84

Sylverine Wilson Brown, age 84, of 100 Revere Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, went to be with her Lord, Saturday, February 15, 2014 at her home.

Mrs. Brown was born December 13, 1929 in Wrightsville, Virginia, the daughter of the late Oscar Leander and Beatrice White Wilson.

She graduated from the former Watson High School and attended Howard University in Washington D.C.

She was a dedicated and loyal member of the Main Street Baptist Church, where she served faithfully as a youth director for almost 20 years.

She was a former member of the Helping Hand Club, the MM Club, and the Women's Federated Club, and helped in Vacation Bible School until her health failed.

She retired from the Alleghany County Public School System as a teacher's assistant.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, William Edward "Bro" Brown on May 13, 2007.

Surviving are her devoted husband of 61 years, William "Bill" Brown, Sr. of Clifton Forge; a devoted daughter, Cynthia Brown of Germantown, MD; one devoted brother, Wayne Wilson and wife, Hazel of Washington, DC; one granddaughter, Jasmine Ewing of Washington, DC; two nieces, Waynette Wilson-Richardson of Cheltenham, MD and Raquel Magruder of Fort Washington, MD; three special daughters, Telah Lacey-Jackson of Fairfax, Trudi Lacey of Charlotte, NC and Jorden Lacy Jackson of Brooklyn, NY; one uncle, Charles White of Cleveland, OH; one great grandson of Washington, DC; one sister-in-law, Juanita Brown of Clifton Forge; a devoted neighbor, Maxine Lee of Clifton Forge; and other wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The celebration of a momentous life was held Saturday, February 22, 2014 at 12:00 noon in Main Street Baptist Church with the Reverend Preston K. Tyler officiating and the Reverend Medina M. Marble assisting. Interment followed in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington. Pallbearers were Gilbert Davis, Charlie Harris, C. Jefferson, Vincent Jones, George Minor and Peter Sam.

The body was placed in the church on Saturday morning and the family received friends from 11:00 AM until time of service at the church. Friends may also call any time at the home, 100 Revere Street, Clifton Forge.
