Obituary for Marvin Edward Nicely, Sr. Marvin Edward Nicely, Sr.
U. S. Navy Veteran Served In The Korean War

Marvin Edward Nicely, Sr., age 80, of 1710 Main Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Brian Center Nursing Home in Fincastle.

He was born February 20, 1934 in Alleghany County, Virginia, to the late Chazy Nicely, Sr. and Minnie Morris Nicely.

He served in the United States Navy for eight years and was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was a retired mechanic for Hercules, Inc., and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and NASCAR.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.

He is survived by his wife of thirty-eight years, Carolyn Honts Nicely of Clifton Forge; four daughters, Sheila Estes of Richmond, Donna Nicely of Iron Gate, Vickie Weber of Fincastle, and Lisa Snead and husband, Timothy of Valley Ridge, Covington; two sons, Marvin Nicely, Jr. of Eagle Rock, and Derrick Nicely and wife, Kimberly of Buena Vista; a sister-in-law, Wanda Nicely of Clifton Forge; six grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friends, Katie Wolfe and husband, Eric of Clifton Forge.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in Longdale United Methodist Church with Reverend Lester Kennedy officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge is in charge of arrangements.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, Blue Ridge of Virginia Chapter, 2728 Colonial Avenue, SW, Suite 2, Roanoke, VA 24015, or to Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, VA 24018.
