Obituary for Maxine Marie Bell Lenburg Maxine Marie Bell Lenburg
Longtime Local Caregiver Dies At Age 92

Maxine Marie Bell Lenburg, age 92, of 802 W. Ridgeway Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Monday, March 3, 2014 at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany in Low Moor.

She was born on February 1, 1922 in a small Indiana town.

She and a younger sister, Virginia Mae Bell, were the daughters of William Arthur and Elsie Bell.

Maxine came to Clifton Forge some years ago as a caregiver to the elderly and disabled.

One who received her ministry of love and care was Miss Eva Tatum, and her pets, until her death. She then cared faithfully for George and Lillian Deaton for an extended period of time.

Maxine was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was active as long as she was able.

She was an animal lover and avid reader, and was up to date on current events. She also appreciated and enjoyed classical music.

During her growing up years, she attended the Methodist Church.

After coming to Clifton Forge, she accompanied Miss Eva Tatum to the First Christian Church, on several occasions visited the Oak Hill Bible Church, and also attended Central United Methodist Church.

During her retirement years, Maxine enjoyed her cozy apartment at Briarcliff, which reflected her love for animals.

Her family consisted of numerous stuffed animals, some with names, carefully placed about her apartment in baskets of every size.

Maxine was an unusual and gracious lady with a ready smile and hugs of appreciation for those who cared for her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, and her beloved pet, Jon Jon.

She leaves behind her faithful caregiver, Ann Brown and other helpers, her friends at Scott Hill, and special friends, Eleanor Bruffey and the Deaton family.

In keeping with her wishes, her body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Bill Gilliland officiating.

There will be no formal visitation.
