Avid Fisherman Was Passionate About Farming

Luther Brown Davenport, 80, of Eagle Rock, Virginia entered eternal rest on Friday, March 21, 2014 at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany.

He was born October 24, 1933 in Eagle Rock to the late Ralph Sr, and Mary Eliza Davenport.

Luther's lifelong passion was farming and he worked tirelessly for the Dudley family and Jim Hale in Roanoke.

In his off time, he was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Leonard, James, Ruby and Gracie.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Morris Davenport, SC; a step daughter, Lavino Morris of SC; two step grandchildren; a sister, Fannie Pierce; brothers, Floyd, Ralph Jr., Charles, Ernest and wife, Karen; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Rising Mt Zion Baptist Church, Gala, VA with Reverend David Halsey officiating. Interment will follow in Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.

The Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, is in charge of arrangements.
