Obituary for William Carlton (Bill) Colvin William Carlton (Bill) Colvin
Former Dominion Power Administrative Service Manager Was Very Active In His Community

William Carlton (Bill) Colvin, 86, of 1500 Chestnut Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died early Monday morning, May 5, 2014 at Lewis Gale Hospital - Alleghany.

He was born on August 15, 1927 in Clifton Forge, a son of the late Robert Lee and Mary Gaddy Colvin.

He was a retired Administrative Services Manager for Dominion Virginia Power at the Covington office.

He was very active in his church and the community.

He was a member of the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, where he had served as Sunday School Superintendent, elder, deacon, trustee, and was always interested in the building and grounds of the church.

Bill had served on the board of the LOA (League of Older Americans) the Community Services board, former Selective Services board and the Housing Alliance Board for 4 years.

He was a member of Gideons International, a life member of the Jaycees, and the Clifton Forge Lions Club.

He served his country in the United States Air Force as a meteorologist.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marian Nicely Colvin of Clifton Forge: a daughter, Susan Brewer and husband, Jim of Clifton Forge; 2 sons, Robert Ernest "Bobby" Colvin of Newport News and Richard Carlton Colvin of Clifton Forge; a sister, Doris Kyle and husband, Rodney of Covington; sister-in-law, Phyllis Tyree of Clifton Forge; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Roger Bradley of Glasgow; 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Tyree, and two great grandchildren.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m.. from Mountain View Cemetery in Clifton Forge with the Rev. Paul Brokaw officiating. Interment will follow.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home or friends may call any time at the residence of 1500 Chestnut Street, Clifton Forge.

The family suggest memorial tributes take the form of contributions to the Clifton Forge Lions Club, c/o Skip McMullen, 22765 Botetourt Road, Eagle Rock, Va. 24085 or to the Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church, 544 Church Street, Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Nicely Funeral Home.
