Obituary for Marlin Duane Alltop Marlin Duane Alltop
Worked With Waynesboro Nurseries And Western State Hospital

Marlin Duane Alltop, 67, of Hot Springs, Virginia, died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at his residence.

He was born April 4, 1947 in Elyria, Ohio, the son of the late Marlin M. Alltop and Retha J. Young.

Duane worked as a certified boiler maker and welder. He worked in landscaping for Waynesboro Nurseries and the Waynesboro Landscape Center.

He graduated from Fresno city College and Kings River Community College in California with an Applied Associates Degree in General Studies and an Associate's Degree in Counseling. He worked as a Counselor for Western State Hospital for 5 years.

He retired from Western State Hospital, where he worked as a counselor.

He is survived by two children, David J. Alltop and wife, Elizabeth of Staunton, Virginia and Corey Brooks and wife, Elizabeth of Stuarts Draft, Virginia; two brothers, John B. Young and wife, Debbie of Hot Springs and Joe Young and wife, Kim of Stuarts Draft; 2 sisters, Debbie Shifflett and husband, Gary of Waynesboro, Virginia and Diane Via and husband, Ronnie of Grottoes, Virginia; three step brothers, Clyde Young and wife, Connie of Greensville, Virginia, Jarry Young and wife, Shirley of Stuarts Draft and David Young and wife, Teresa of Stuarts Draft; and three grandchildren, Keller, Austin and Sean.

He was preceded in death by a step brother, Jimmy Young. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 19, 2014 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home with Reverend W. Ed Mansfield officiating and Pastor Jarry Young, assisting. Interment will be in Warm Springs Cemetery.
