Joe Bailey Smiley, Jr., age 50, of 1416 Tunnel Hill Road, Millboro, Virginia, died Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Bath Community Hospital in Hot Springs.

Joe was born September 19, 1963 in Augusta County, a son of Joe Bailey Smiley, Sr. and Barbara Lawrence.

He worked for Unifi, Inc for 16 years, Cambata Industries for 12 years, and was presently employed at Windy Cove Farm.

He was a member of Millboro Christian Church.

Joe enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing, coaching Little League, working on automobiles, carpentry, gardening, grilling out, and especially spending quality time with his family.

Joe's life is represented by the phrase "May the work I've done speak for me." He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Teresa Forbes Smiley of Millboro; two sons, Jacob Bailey Smiley and Justin Bryant Smiley, also of Millboro; his father, Joe B. Smiley, Sr.; his mother and step father, Barbara and Michael Lawrence; his mother-in-law, Melba Forbes; two sisters, June Smiley of Staunton and Michele Batton of Waynesboro; a number of nieces and nephews; and many loving friends.

A funeral service to celebrate his life will be conducted on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Lloyd Via officiating.

Interment will follow in Millboro Christian Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Stinespring, Randy Stinespring, Mitchell Stinespring, Randy Robertson, Ronnie Rohr, Jr. and David Reese.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
