Obituary for Darlene H. Armontrout Darlene H. Armontrout
Former Jane Colby Machine Operator Was Also Private Sitter

Mrs. Darlene H. Armontrout, age 79, of Hot Springs, Virginia, died Friday, June 13, 2014, at Bath Community Hospital, Hot Springs.

She was preceded in death by her husband of thirty-five years, Charles Meritt Armontrout in 1989.

Mrs. Armontrout was born July 8, 1934 in Alleghany County and was the last surviving and youngest of ten children born to Luther Nelson Howard and Julia Sams Howard of Sweet Chalybeate.

In her earlier years, she was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church when it was on Craig Street in Covington, but in her later years, she attended Granbery Memorial United Methodist Church with her sister, brother-in-law, and various friends.

During her working career, she was employed as a machine operator by the former Jane Colby Company, and also did private sitting.

Mrs. Armontrout is survived by three sons, Charles M. Armontrout and wife, Jan of Covington, Marshall A. Armontrout of Staunton and Mark A. Armontrout and wife, Erin of Clifton Forge; six grandchildren, Keri L. Armontrout of Waynesboro, Madison Olivia Armontrout and Lydia Paige Armontrout of Clifton Forge; Lisa Warren of Woodstock; Richard A. Warren, Jr. of Richmond; Loveda Warren of Blacksburg; one great grandson, Austin T. Lutz of Waynesboro; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Armontrout was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, Homer Howard, Beulah Howard Brothers, Garnet Howard, Randolph Howard, Bonnie Howard Bush, Roberta Howard Cottrell, Vernon Howard and Jack Howard.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the League of Older Americans, Meals-On-Wheels program, P. O. Box 725, Covington, VA 24426.

A thank you must go to all of the doctors, nurses and support staff of LewisGale Hospital Ð Alleghany, Low Moor, the Springs Nursing Home and Bath Community Hospital for their professional and dedicated assistance during Darlene's last few months. A very special thank you must go to her cousin, Barbara Howard Fitzgerald, for the caring time and effort given to Darlene during her last few years that made her days a bit easier to manage. May God bless them all.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 19, 2014, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Lynn Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.
