Obituary for James Brisco Forbes James Brisco Forbes
Rockbridge County Native Was MeadWestvaco Wood Department Retiree

James Brisco Forbes, 89, of 105 Friels Drive, Covington, Virginia, died Friday June 27, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Forbes was born in Rockbridge County, the son of the late Jesse and Ida May Plott Forbes.

He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Wilma Gann Forbes, as well as his second wife, Mary Fogus Carper Forbes; one daughter, Susie Forbes; one sister, Virginia Bayne; three brothers, Charles Forbes, Eugene Forbes, and Russell Forbes; and one granddaughter, Nita Bell Forbes.

James retired in 1983 after 43 years of service to MeadWestvaco in the Wood Department.

Mr. Forbes was also involved with the LOA. He was a very avid outdoorsman and gardener in his spare time.

Surviving are five daughters: Elva Salyers and husband, James of Covington, Carol Stiltner of Grundy, Ruth Nicely and husband, Richard of Clifton Forge, Teresa Elam and husband, Stanley of Williamsburg, and Donna Pullin and husband, Mike of Hot Springs; four sons: James William Forbes and wife, Ngyen, Jerry Forbes and wife, Irene, Delmas Forbes and wife, Gail, and Jerome Forbes and wife, Robin, all of Covington; 27 grandchildren, 61 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild, a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins, and a caregiver, Amy Tingler.

The funeral service will be held Monday June 30, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Doug Hollenbeck officiating.

Interment will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from noon until service time at the Arritt Funeral Home.
