Obituary for David Curtis Grimes, Jr. David Curtis Grimes, Jr.
Former Rockbridge Weekly Reporter Dies At Age 54

David Curtis Grimes, Jr. of Radford, aged 54, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2014 from a series of infections.

Born in Lynchburg, he was the son of Katherine Everette Wooldridge and David Curtis Grimes, Sr. (both deceased).

He was a graduate of Amherst High School.

David enjoyed several careers in his lifetime. He was a policeman at one point, and later worked as a reporter for the Rockbridge Weekly in Lexington.

He moved to the New River Valley around 2002 and worked for several publications as a news and a sports reporter. But the true passion of his life was covering sports.

He was solidly committed to supporting the sports programs of the area rec centers and schools, and was active as an umpire at local sports events. At the time of his death, he was a sports reporter writing for the News Messenger and Radford News Journal, and he operated a regional sports website at www.ValleySportsNow.com.

A memorial service to celebrate David's life took place on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Christiansburg Recreation Center on 1600 N. Franklin St. People came to share their favorite stories about David and his love of sports.
