Obituary for Robert Stanley (Bob) Berry, Sr. Robert Stanley (Bob) Berry, Sr.
Korean War Veteran Was Staunton Native, CSX Brakeman And Conductor

Robert Stanley (Bob) Berry, Sr., age 81, of 412 Church Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Wednesday July 23, 2014 at his residence.

He was born December 11, 1932 in Staunton, Virginia, to the late Arthur Cleatus Berry and Mamie Katherine VanLear Berry.

He retired from CSX transportation as a brakeman and conductor with over 34 years of service.

He was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Clifton Forge, and the Burnside-Carpenter Post 4299 Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army where he served in the Korean War.

He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed making his own rods and tackle. He was considered a "Jack of all Trades".

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Lee Kennedy and Dottie Mae Paterno, and a daughter-in-law, Nadine Berry.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Catherine Juanita Berry; three sons, Robert Berry Jr. and companion Shari, William Lawrence Berry, and Stuart Wayne Berry and companion Melissa; a sister, JoAnn Potter; five grandsons: Ben, William Lawrence II, Quinton Duane, Brandon Wayne and Ethan Thomas Berry; three granddaughters: Hattie Virginia Beard, Jessica Shannon Harmon and Marina Nadine Berry; thirteen great grandchildren; special friends, W.T. Kennedy, Doodie Morris, Clem Irvine and Dickie Warren.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 28, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with the Reverend Lynn Wright officiating. Entombment will be in the Alleghany Memorial Park Mausoleum with military rites being conducted by Burnside-Carpenter VFW Post 4299.

Serving as pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons, honorary pallbearers will be Elwood Deisher, Daniel Golden, Ty Edwards and his granddaughters.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home. The family requests memorial contributions take the form of donations to the Burnside-Carpenter Post # 4299 Veterans of Foreign Wars, P. O. Box 182 Clifton Forge, Va. 24422.
