Obituary for William Walker (Billy) Lawhorn William Walker (Billy) Lawhorn
Former Hercules Slitter Operator Also Worked With Acadia Polymers

William Walker (Billy) Lawhorn, age 72, of 211 Higgins Hollow Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at his residence.

He was born October 21, 1941 in Low Moor to the late Maynard Lawhorn and Tulip Lawhorn Crowder.

He retired as a slitter operator for Hercules, Inc. /AET after forty-two years, and went to work for Acadia Polymers of Iron Gate.

He was a member of the Clifton Forge Moose Lodge.

His love of sports began early, pitching for the former Central High School baseball team, and continued throughout his life as an avid Pittsburg Steelers, Virginia Cavaliers and NASCAR fan, with Rusty Wallace as his favorite driver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Milton Lawhorn and Charles "Chuck" Lawhorn and a half sister, Shirley Peters.

He is survived by his wife, Janie Lawhorn of Clifton Forge; two daughters, Donna Lawhorn Steelman and fiance, Heath of Covington, and Dreamma Lawhorn of Clifton Forge; two sons, William Wayne Lawhorn and fiancee Laura of Covington, and Donnie Lawhorn and wife, Phyllis of White Rock Gap, Covington; a daughter-in-law, Tina Groves of Covington; a son-in-law, Rick Steelman of Staunton: two sisters, Sue Jean Richards and husband, Danny of Boones Mill, and Freda Overton of Clifton Forge; a brother, James Lawhorn and girlfriend, Shirley of Clifton Forge; four grandchildren, Chris Sorrells, Emily Lawhorn, James Groves and Ariana Bolden; a great grandson, William Bowen; two aunts, Dorothy Rhodes of Covington and Joann Steber of Austin, TX; a number of nieces and nephews; and special companion, his dog, Sassy.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Gene Peters officiating.

Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be selected from family and friends attending the service. The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon, one hour prior to the service at Nicely Funeral Home.
