World War II Veteran Was Westvaco Retiree, Owner Of Levisay Electric Company

Mr. Samuel Harlow (Sam) Levisay, Jr., age 87, of Covington, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 12, 2014, following an extended illness.

Mr. Levisay, a lifelong resident of Covington, was born April 7, 1927, the only child of parents, Samuel Harlow Levisay and Ruth Persinger Levisay.

Mr. Levisay was a graduate of Covington High School and served his country in the Army Air Force in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

Mr. Levisay retired from Westvaco Corporation in 1987, after forty-one years.

Mr. Levisay was also owner of Levisay Electric Company, the business inherited from his father.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, the Curtis A. Smith Post 1033 Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post #4. Mr. Levisay was a member of the Covington Fire Department and Rescue Squad for over twenty years.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Mr. Levisay is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Germaine Hambrick "Pete" Levisay. He is also survived by two daughters and their husbands, Mrs. Chip (Becky) Woodyard of Eagle Rock and Mrs. Greg (Lisa) Dickson of Covington; a cherished grandson and his wife, Eric and Deena Rothwell, of Troutville, and his pride and joy, twin great grandsons, Aidan and Riley Rothwell of Troutville, to whom he was affectionately known as "Pop-Pop, who could fix everything."

Also surviving are a special nephew-in-law and his wife, Randy and Carol Gilbert of Covington and their daughters, Mrs. Wallace (Kathy) Byer and Mrs. Bruce (Amy) Byer and their children Andrea, Jacob, Kerry Ann, and Emily, and Caitlin and Anna. He loved them all.

Stories of the precious memories of childhood days growing up on Marion Avenue, and time spent with dear cousins at the Persinger homeplace in Mallow were always ready to be told. Those stories fondly included lifelong friends, G. C. Fawley and Robert Loving and cousins, Jim Loving, John Loving, W.G. Loving, Berkley Persinger and Doris Wingfield.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 15, 2014, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Eric Rothwell, Chip Woodyard, Greg Dickson, William J. Withrow, Skipper Reyns, Berkley Persinger, Jimmy Loving, Todd Loving and Christian Kern.

Honorary pallbearers will be G. C. Fawley, Robert Loving, Randy Gilbert and Berkley Key.
