Obituary for Edward Lewis (Eddie) Austin Edward Lewis (Eddie) Austin
Longtime Local Banker Was Korean War Veteran

Edward Lewis (Eddie) Austin, 84, of 549 Woodfield Drive, Covington, Virginia, left his earthly home to be with his Heavenly Father Tuesday morning, August 19, 2014.

Eddie was born November 30, 1929, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Aaron S. and Lula Rose Austin.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Austin, on August 1 of this year, his brother, Tommy Austin, on February 1 of this year and his nephew, Gene Austin, in 1994.

He was a veteran of the Korean War with the United States Navy.

He was a graduate of National Business College in Roanoke and was employed by the former Citizens National Bank, the First National Exchange Bank, the Dominion Bank and retired as Vice-President of Wachovia Bank in 1989.

He was a past governor of Covington Lodge #610, Loyal Order of the Moose, member of the Covington Lions Club, member of Mountain Valley United Methodist Church and a member of the Larue Hunt Club for over forty years.

Eddie was an avid hunter and fisherman was proud to be a farmer in Rich Patch.

He had a lifelong love of trains.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 35 years, Janet Howard Austin, of Covington; his daughter and son-in-law, Penny and David McFall, of Covington; his granddaughter, "the love of his life", Makenzi McFall, of Covington; his daughter-in-law, Diana Austin, of Covington; his sister, Julia Anne Underwood, of Covington; his sister-in-law, Mary Austin, of Covington, and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.

Interment will be made in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Active pallbearers will be David McFall, Durwin Waddell, Pat Caldwell, Bill Keyser, Frankie Leisher, Chipper Cale, Gene Snyder and Sonny Waddell.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Covington Lodge #610, Loyal Order of the Moose, and other friends attending the service.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home, Covington, Virginia.
