Clifton Forge Native Dies In North Carolina

Hallie Leona Robinson Shires, age 89, of the Brian Center, Lincolnton, North Carolina, and formerly of McKinney Hollow, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Friday, August 29, 2014 in North Carolina.

She was born April 17, 1925 in Clifton Forge to the late Walter L. and Gladys Persinger Robinson.

She was a retired bank teller and bookkeeper for the former First National Bank of Clifton Forge.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, the PPP Sewing Circle, the Annie Livesay Circle, and the Sharon Ruritan Club Ladies Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall E. Shires in 1988.

She is survived by a daughter, Connie S. McKnight of King, NC; a son, Ronnie Shires and wife, Nancy of Iron Station, NC: four grandchildren, Diana Bryant, Casey M. Voss, Walter Marshall Shires, and Jessica Shires Robinson; six great grandchildren, Alex, Katie, Ella Grace, Isaiah, Isaac and Jaxon.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Ed Wold and Reverend Lynn Wright officiating.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge. Pallbearers will be Walter Shires, Todd Bryant, Jason Robinson, Andrew Voss, Alex Bryant and Richard VanLear. Buck Grimm will be an honorary pallbearer.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Central United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 16, Clifton Forge, VA 24422, or to the charity of your choice in Mrs. Shires' name.
