Trucking Company Dispatcher Was Longtime Covington Community Member

Mr. Richard Debock (Dickie) Shaw, Jr., fondly known as "Grampy" by his beloved grandchildren, age 68, of Covington, Virginia, died Saturday, September 6, 2014, at LewisGale Hospital-Alleghany, Low Moor.

He was the husband of Brenda Whitmore Shaw.

Mr. Shaw was born June 20, 1946 in Quincy, MA, the son of Richard Debock Shaw, Sr. and the late Doris Walton Shaw.

A member of this community since 1963, he was employed as a dispatcher by Team Carriers Trucking Company.

Dickie enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hiking, and boating as well as camping and photography.

In addition to his wife, Brenda, Mr. Shaw is survived by two daughters, Deanna Shaw D'Arpa and husband, Giuseppe of Troutville and Amy Shaw Bishop and husband, Stacey of Covington; seven grandchildren, Ethan D'Arpa, Emily D'Arpa, Mia D'Arpa, Ashtyn Bishop, Evan Bishop, Ryan Bishop, and Jordan Bishop; three sisters-in-law and their husbands, Janet and Harry Brown, Marilyn and Jim Kelley, and Joy and Steven Booze; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was conducted at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 9, 2014, from the chapel of Loving Funeral Home with Rev. Michael C. Fleenor officiating. The family received friends following the service at Loving Funeral Home.
