Obituary for Frances Boal Corrington Frances Boal Corrington
Lexington Resident Had Life Of Community Service

Frances Boal Corrington, 82, of Lexington, Va., died on Friday, September 5, 2014, at her home.

She was born on September 29, 1931, in Evanston, Ill., to the late Ayres and Frances Boal.

Franny was a true daughter of the American Mid-West and at an early age developed an independent, sensible nature which would serve her throughout her life. She spent many happy hours at her family's summer home in Michigan, where she developed a resilient, fearless spirit as she expertly swam and sailed the waters of Lake Charlevoix.

Blessed with a keen intellect, Franny graduated from Wheaton College in Massachusets with a degree in biology and in 1953, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard Fitch 'Dick' Corrington.

Franny and Dick lived in California, Connecticut, New York, Illinois and Virginia as Dick pursued his career interests before moving to Lexington in 1978, where Franny continued her successful business of building and marketing specialty clocks to gift shops and craft vendors. She eventually replaced that venture with one of almost full time community service.

In past years, Franny served on a National Committee for the Audobon Society re-writing their docent training manual, logged countless hours as a volunteer emergency room patient services co-ordinator at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, was a founding member of Lime Kiln Theater, sang in the Community Chorus, assisted in productions at the Henry Street Playhouse and was a founding board member and ardent supporter of Project Horizon, a safe haven and shelter for victims of domestic abuse.

For many years Franny was an avid tennis player and most recently had developed a passion for tournament bridge, where she was an accomplished and formidable competitor.

Her interests were varied and her support for her community was generous and far reaching.

In addition to her husband, Franny is survived by her three sons, Richard Fitch 'Rick' Corrington Jr. and his wife, Debbie, of Lexington, William Boal 'Billy' Corrington of McLean, Va., and James Frances 'Jimmy' Corrington of Lexington; one daughter, Frances 'Francie' Corrington of Frankfort, Ky.; and two sisters, Leslie Seltzer and Ann Ayres Boal, both of Phoenix, Ariz.

A memorial service was conducted at 2 p.m. on Monday, September 8, 2014, at the Lauderdale AR Presbyterian Church on Main Street in Lexington with the Rev. Benjamin W. Dowling III officiating.

There was no visitation at the funeral home, but the family received friends in the church fellowship hall following the service for a time of reflection and celebration of Franny's life. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Frances Corrington's memory to Project Horizon at 120 Varner Lane, Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements by Harrison Funeral Home and Crematory, Lexington, Va., 540-463-2912.
