Retired Homestead Employee Was Lifetime Fireman, Rescue Squad Member, Lead Guitarist

Weldon (Bud) Kenneth Caracofe Jr, 73, of Hot Springs, Virginia, died Wednesday, September 17, 2014 at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born October 24, 1940 in Highland County, the son of the late Weldon K Caracofe and Edith Mae Argenbright.

He was retired from the Homestead after 45 years in Upholstery and Maintenance.

Bud was a lifetime member of the Hot Springs Volunteer Fire Department, a charter member of Hot Springs Rescue Squad, a member of Eden United Methodist Church, life member and played lead guitar with the Edenaires.

He enjoyed cutting firewood. As a young man he played football for Bath County. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting.

Bud was always willing to help anyone in the community by cutting wood, working on small engines, laying carpet, electrical work, or doing anything else for others. He never missed a Charger football game.

Bud is survived by his son, Donnie Caracofe and wife, Cindy of Marlinton, West Virginia; 2 grandchildren that he helped raise, Chelsea Cook and special friend, Justin Lowen and Nathan Cook and special friend, Cassie Hoover, all of Hot Springs; step-grandchildren, Jay Cook, Tabby Cook and Kim Cook, all of Hot Springs, Sam Hodge of Warm Springs, Virginia; numerous great grandchildren; a brother, Roy Caracofe and wife, Sandy of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Edna Dean of Hot Springs; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Caracofe, who preceded him in death on September 9, 2008; a daughter, Teresa Cook who preceded him in death on August 27, 1996; a sister, Chris Dean.

A funeral service was conducted at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Eden United Methodist Church with pastors Lorrie Aikens and Debbie Carey officiating. Interment was made in Warm Springs Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jeff Robertson, Atley Robertson, Fay Hise, Todd Caracofe, Greg Caracofe, Paul Dean, Wayne Dean, Bobby Bogan; honorary pallbearers were Rick Armstrong and Bootsie Berry.

The family received friends from 6 Ð 8 pm Saturday, September 20, 2014 at McLaughlin & Young Funeral Home.
