Obituary for Nancy King Balser Nancy King Balser
Retired CSB Professional Was Former Tractor Trailer Driver

Mrs. Nancy King Balser, age 77, of Covington, Virginia, went home to the Lord, Monday, October 13, 2014, at her residence.

She was the wife of the late Calvin Glenn Balser.

Mrs. Balser was born May 2, 1937 in Alleghany County, the daughter of the late Charles Campbell King and Bessie Mae Ford King.

She was employed as a direct support professional by the Community Service Board at the Life Skill Center before her retirement. Prior to her employment with CSB, Nancy was one of only a handful of female Over-the-Road tractor trailer drivers. She was chosen Queen of the Road for her driving skills by Open Road Magazine in 1979 and drove over two million accident and ticket free highway miles. Her driving skills also landed her the lead spot in a TV commercial for J.C. Penney.

Nancy attended Good News Fellowship Church and was a hard worker who always put her faith and family first her entire life.

Mrs. Balser is survived by a son, Perry Allen Balser, Sr. and his wife, Aldena; five grandchildren and two step grandchildren, Perry Allen (P.J.) Balser, Jr. and girlfriend, Jodie, Brian Scott Balser and girlfriend, Afton, April Dawn Balser, Ashlei Elaine Balser and boyfriend, Dusty, Angel Laken Balser, Jerry Craghead, Jr. and girlfriend, Beth, and Jeremy Craghead; six great grandchildren, Austin Leavens, Kirsten Leavens, Cole Leavens, Kensington Balser, Dalton Pennington and Bentley Balser; a sister, Judy King Miller and husband, Buck; and a special family friend, Squeak Harlow who drove a tractor trailer for a number of years for Nancy.

Mrs. Balser was preceded in death by a daughter, Ronda Kay Balser in 1965; one brother, C.C. King, Jr.; and one sister, Wanda Mae Unroe.

She was also preceded in death by Tallith (Tally) Miller, who spent most of his childhood at the Balser home and was considered an adopted son.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2014, in Alleghany Memorial Park with Rev. Bill Gilliland officiating.

Those wishing to attend the service should assemble at Loving Funeral Home by 12:15 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Perry Balser, Sr., P. J. Balser, Brian Balser, J.D. Terrell, Joshua Craft, and Richard Henry.
