Former Owner Of Lexington's Valley True Value Hardware Dies At Age 84

Eugene Langston Holland, 84, of Lexington, Virginia, died Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Golden Living Center in Buena Vista, Virginia.

Born February 16, 1930 in Danville, Virginia, a son of the late George Eugene Holland and Elizabeth Kendrick Holland.

Mr. Holland was a graduate of George Washington High School in Danville, VA, and RPI (Virginia Commonwealth University) in Richmond, Va.

After graduation from college he was the Vice President and Treasurer of the Southern Department Store, and later was the Owner and Operator of Valley True Value Hardware in Lexington for25 years before retiring.

Surviving are his wife of 22 years, Doris G. Holland of Lexington; one sister, Nancy Inman of Great Bridge, Va.; one sister-in-law, Gwen Hess; special nephew, Skip Hess; special friends, Danny Wheeler, Curt Fredin, David Moore, Carolyn Tolley; beloved dog, Beau; many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at Stonewall Jackson Cemetery with Dr. William Klein officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of Gene to the Lexington Rescue Squad, 708 S. Main Street, Lexington, VA 24450, Rockbridge County SPCA, 10 Animal Place, Lexington, VA 24450, or to Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers Street, Lexington, VA 24450.

The family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory, Lexington, Va.
