Former MeadWestvaco, Hercules Employee Was Longtime Covington Little League Baseball Coach

John Lynn Green, age 79, of Maryville, Tennessee, slipped away peacefully in his sleep at UT Medical Center.

John entered this earthly life on February 15th 1935 and departed to be with his heavenly father on November 12, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his father, Thurman Green; mother, Pinkie Green Miller, and brother, Ray Lloyd Green and great granddaughter, Eden Corinne Johnston.

John leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Loretta F. Green she will miss him every day until they meet again in heaven. John also had 3 sons and one daughter, Mike and wife, Joan of Covington, VA., Doug and wife, Yvonne of Jackson, MO., Tim and wife Amy of Covington, VA, Terry and Carl Young of Maryville, TN. John also had one surviving sister, Mary Martin of Lafayette, IN., 6 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren.

John was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and devoted Christian. He loved the Lord Jesus and spent a life in service to Him, serving as a deacon at Temple Baptist and Faith Baptist in Covington; he was a devout member of Springview Baptist and Dotson Memorial Baptist after moving to Maryville.

John loved young people and worked tirelessly to help them grow into both Christians and better athletes. John coached Little League baseball for 31 years, 27 years of which was as a head coach of the Kiwanis team in the Covington area, he touched many lives while doing so. John and Loretta, working with other adult leaders, established the Word of Life youth ministry at Faith Baptist. Working through camps, meetings, competitions, and trips many young people grew in their faith.

John was born at home on the farm and loved the farm life into early adulthood. Even after relocating for employment, his love for gardening and flowers brought him years of enjoyment.

John worked at the Hercules plant in Covington, VA for 28 years and 8 years at MeadWestvaco before retiring to Maryville, TN.

The family received family and friends on Friday November 14, 2014, at Miller Funeral Home in Maryville, TN. The honoring of John's life will continue in Covington, VA at the chapel of Arritt's Funeral Home. A viewing was held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Sunday, November 16, 2014 with the funeral service to be held 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 17, 2014 at Arritt's Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Dotson Memorial Baptist Church Building Program, 814 Dotson Memorial Road, Maryville, TN 37801.
