Obituary for Gary Lee Mundy, Sr. Gary Lee Mundy, Sr.
U. S. Navy Veteran Was Retired MeadWestvaco Crane Operator

Gary Lee Mundy, Sr., age 82, of 119 Magazine Avenue, Covington, Virginia, died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the home of his daughter in Eagle Rock.

Gary was born February 22, 1932 in Covington to the late Ancil Lee and Bessie Marie Rader Mundy.

He served in the United States Navy for four years from 1950 to 1954 while at the Norfolk Naval Station, aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Coolbaugh, and at the Key West Naval Base.

He was a retired crane operator for MeadWestvaco with thirty-seven years of experience, and was a member of McAllister Memorial Presbyterian Church of Covington.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being outdoors and loved his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barry Joneal Frazier Mundy; a son, Richard Mundy; two sisters, Mary Francis Markham and Nadine Marie Mundy; and two brothers, Kenneth Mundy and Donald Gene Mundy.

He is survived by a daughter, Cathy Gale Gladwell and husband, Billy of Eagle Rock; three sons, Gary Lee Mundy, Jr. and wife, Meihong Chen of Roanoke, David E. Mundy of Covington, and Jeffrey Wayne Mundy and wife, Sharon of Roanoke; two daughters-in-law, Susie Mundy and Tammy Mundy, both of Covington; two sisters-in-law, Karen Mundy and Shirley Mundy, both of Covington; two brothers-in-law, Garnett Frazier and wife, Pam of Clifton Forge, and Pete Markham and wife, Billie Sue of Covington; eleven grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Bill Gilliland officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Covington.

The grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home.
