Obituary for Robert Eugene (Bobby) Long, Sr. Robert Eugene (Bobby) Long, Sr.
Retired Covington Police Department Sergeant Was Virginia National Guard Veteran

Robert Eugene (Bobby) Long, Sr., 71, of Covington, Virginia, died Friday, December 19, 2014 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

He was born August 14, 1943, in Alleghany County, a son of the late Paul A. and Rosalie Hess Long.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Bush Long, in 2004.

Mr. Long served with the Virginia National Guard for over 6 years.

Bobby retired as a sergeant with the Covington Police Department after 31 years of service.

Surviving are his daughter, Chantelle Osbourne and her husband, Bryder, of Covington; his son, Robert Eugene (Robbie) Long, Jr. and wife, Tammy of Covington; four grandchildren, Onyx Long, Brynel Osbourne, Skylar Long and Robert E. Long III (Tres), all of Covington; one brother, James (Jimmie) Long and his wife, Faye, of Lynchburg; his fiance, Mary Ann Tyree, of Covington; his brother-in-law, Bill Woodson, and his wife, Debbie; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held Tuesday, December 23, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. in the Arritt Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Price officiating, assisted by the Rev. J. B. Broughman.

Interment will follow in Alleghany Memorial Park.

Active Pallbearers will be Gordy Ridgeway, Randy Gilbert, Roger Dawson, Ray Tolley, and members of the Covington Police Department. Honorary pallbearer will be Keith Lockhart.

The family will receive friends Monday, December 22, 2014 from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Chantelle and Bryder Osbourne at 3017 Mallow Road, Covington, VA 24426.

Memorial donations in Mr. Long's name be made to Clowns for Christ Missions Fund, P. O. Box 970, Madison Heights, Virginia 24572.
