Former Covington Resident Dies At Age 76

Theodore Roosevelt (Ted) Moore, Jr., 76, of Powhatan, Virginia, was welcomed with open arms by his Lord and Savior on Saturday, January 3, 2015.

Mr. Moore was born August 29, 1938, in Covington a son of the late Theodore R. and Edith Wilfong Moore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three Sisters, Helen Brinkley Brooks, Evelyn Huyck Harper and Faye Roberts Powell.

Ted graduated from Covington High School in 1956 and attended Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia. He began working for AT&T in 1960 at Richmond as a craft and after working in Moseley, VA, Lewisburg, WV, in the Bunker under the Greenbrier Hotel and Charleston, WV. He retired from AT&T at Fairfax, VA.

He did not like retirement at an early age after all, so he worked at VDOT in Richmond from 1995 until 2005 as an IT Technician.

He was a member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church for his entire life and served in many locations. He willingly did janitorial work, maintenance, church board member and Sunday School teacher, especially for 8 to12 year-old boys that no one else could handle. He faithfully paid his tithes and often gave offerings above that amount. Ted was currently attending the Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church in Richmond.

Surviving are his wife, of 56¨ö years, Della Bell Moore of Powhatan, his son, Theodore C. Moore, of Richmond; his daughters, Anne Martin of Richmond and Susan Shifflett and her husband, Terry, of Shenandoah; nine grandchildren, Jason Martin and his wife, Suzy, Brandon Martin and his wife, Brandi, Ben Moore and his wife, Kristy, Amy Bankert and her husband, Kevin, Monica Hensley and her husband, David, Theodore C. Shifflett and his wife, Lauren, Jessica Shifflett, Timmy Shifflett and Daniel Shifflett; thirteen great grandchildren, Troy Bankert, MaKenzie Hoover, Angelyna Moore, Mikey Martin, Kaylie Hoover, Dylan Bankert, Alayna Hensley, Jamie Martin, Samara Martin, Sydney Hensley, Evalee Shifflett, C.J. Moore and M.J. Moore, and several nieces, nephews and special friends, including Pam Moore and Tommy and Terry Alfred.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Arritt Funeral Home in Covington with the Rev. Mark Thomas officiating.

Interment will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington.

The family will receive their friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Arritt Funeral Home.

The family suggests that donations in Ted's name be made to the Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church, 3400 Courthouse Road, Richmond, VA 23236, or to the Alzheimer's Association, P. O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
