Obituary for Marguerite Virginia Maddex Nunley Marguerite Virginia Maddex Nunley
Charlottesville Native Dies At Age 92

Heaven has a new angel!

Marguerite Virginia Maddex Nunley, 92, departed this earth on January 7, 2015, surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Charlottesville, Virginia, on February 19, 1922 to Alice Louise Leathers Maddex and William Winn Maddex.

Experiencing all her education in Charlottesville, she graduated from Lane High School. Thereafter, she became an EKG technician at the University of Virginia Hospital. It was there that she met her beloved husband and best friend, Dr. Wallace C. Nunley, Sr.

They married January 3, 1947, and had 66 wonderful years of marriage before his passing on January 16, 2013.

Marguerite was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She spent her early married life in Rupert, West Virginia, where her husband practiced family medicine and obstetrics.

She moved to Clifton Forge, Virginia, in 1959 where she participated in many civic activities and steadfastly supported her husband throughout his many roles in the Shriners organizations.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Marguerite always enjoyed family activities, especially with her special nephews and nieces.

In her later years, she was always excited about her outings to the Cat and Owl Restaurant and The Club Car, where she was greeted by many friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, three brothers (William, Landon, and Jack), and one sister (Helen Maddex Bennett).

Marguerite is survived by a son, Dr. Wallace C. Nunley, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Charlottesville; a daughter, Carolyn Sue Nunley Wilkinson, and husband, Howard, of Barhamsville; four grandchildren, Wallace Clay Nunley III and wife, Tara, of Lynchburg, Hunter Ryan Nunley of Charlottesville, Howard Preston Wilkinson III and wife, Melissa, of Glen Allen, and Katherine Clay King and husband, Jamie, of Glen Allen; six great-grandchildren, Michael James King, Carson Clay King, Howard Preston "Trip" Wilkinson IV, Landon Hunter Nunley, Hannah McKay Nunley, Hunter Everett Nunley, and several nephews and nieces.

Special appreciation goes to Dr. James Ballou for his compassionate care, to the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, and to the staff at the Brian Center.

The family is eternally grateful for the many caregivers over the last several years, but wish to recognize two special people: Pamela Douglas and Phyllis Church, for always going above and beyond. The family is very appreciative of the care and support from Hospice.

On Friday evening, January 9, 2015, the family visited with friends at Nicely Funeral Home in Clifton Forge.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 10, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home with Reverend Lynn Wright and Mr. J. D. Williams officiating. Entombment will follow on Sunday, January 11, at 1:00 p.m. in the Mausoleum of Monticello Memory Gardens in Charlottesville.

Pallbearers will be H. Preston Wilkinson III, W. Clay Nunley III, H. Ryan Nunley, Jamie King, Harvey Burns, and Herbert Sams. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Hank Via, Frank Figgers, Tom Dunkenberger, Jr., Glenn Perry, Tom Dean, Charlie Kahle, Bruce Proffitt, Jim Eller, Glenn Jones, Jim Snyder and Tommy Slusser.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to one of the following: Central United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 16, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422, the Clifton Forge Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 419, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422, or the Kazim Temple Transportation Fund, C/O James Eller, 1201 Crestwood Avenue, Clifton Forge, Virginia 24422.
