Obituary for Al Thomas (Ted) Stone, Sr. Al Thomas (Ted) Stone, Sr.
Staunton Native Was C&O Brakeman, Owner Of Ted's Place In Millboro

Al Thomas (Ted) Stone, Sr., age 79, of 904 Frog Pond Road, Staunton, Virginia, and formerly of Millboro, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville.

Ted was born December 12, 1935 in Staunton to the late Harmon Dewitt Stone, Sr. and Ellen Marie Smith Stone.

He was a brakeman for the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad for fifteen years and was former owner and operator of Ted's Place in Millboro.

He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 51 years, Martha Ann DeHart Stone in 2006, and a brother, Harmon Dewitt "Skippy" Stone, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Wilson Stone of Clifton Forge; a daughter, Honey Stone-Bartges and husband, Danny of Staunton; a son, Al Stone, Jr. and wife, Judy of Clifton Forge; three grandchildren, Jennifer Ann Armstrong, Rachel Ann Stone Mitchell, and Marsha Dianne Stone; six great grandchildren, Corey Scott Rowan, Lonnis Mitchell, Christopher Mitchell, Logan Mitchell, Savanna Fae Steele, and Joseph Randolph Hevener; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Rob Sherrard officiating.

The family will receive friends on Saturday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Windy Cove Presbyterian Church Building Fund, 102 Windy Cove Road, Millboro, VA 24460 or to the American Heart Association, Attn: Joy Weeks, Memorial Chairman, 2212 Dressler Drive, Covington, VA 24426.
