Selma Native Dies At Age 85

Anna Jane Spangler Higgins, age 85, of 2122 Athol Street, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Thursday, January 22, 2015 at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany in Low Moor.

She was born February 27, 1929 in Selma, Virginia, to the late Charles Lewis Spangler and Mabel Williams Spangler.

She was a homemaker throughout her life, and loved taking care of her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn William Higgins in 1999; and a number of sisters and brothers, including Mary Helen Spangler.

She is survived by five children, Glen L. Higgins and wife, Sharon, Ricki Higgins and wife, Becky, Pat Higgins, Melanie Higgins, and Mack Higgins and wife, Liz, all of Clifton Forge; a brother-in-law, Bobby Higgins and wife, Nancy of Clifton Forge; four sisters-in-law, Hazel Barker of Richmond, and Kaki Higgins, Wilma Spangler and Ruth Bush, all of Clifton Forge; four grandchildren, Glen L. Higgins, Jr. and wife, Pat, Katana Ackerman and husband, Greg, Jayson Higgins, and Cody Higgins; four great grandchildren, Kendall, Brittney, Hunter, and Gage; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend W. Pembroke Hall officiating. Interment will follow in Central Advent Christian Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

Pallbearers will be Mack Higgins, Pat Higgins, Ricki Higgins, Glen Higgins, Jr., Glen Higgins, Sr., Jayson Higgins, Cody Higgins, Jamie Broughman and Earl Higgins, Jr.

The family will receive friends on Sunday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 2122 Athol Street, Clifton Forge, VA. In lieu of gifts of food, the family requests donations be made to the Area Food Pantry, P. O. Box 361, Clifton Forge, VA 24422. The family also suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
