Well-Known Rockbridge County Cattleman Dies At Age 91

Ezra Grover Huffman Jr., 91, a well-known cattleman in Rockbridge County, Virginia, and surrounding counties, died January 31, 2015, at his residence.

He was born July 17, 1923, in Collierstown to the late Ezra Grover Huffman Sr. and Nettie Johnston Huffman.

E.G. is the last surviving member of his immediate family, being predeceased by two sisters, Isabel H. Leech and Elizabeth H. Tigner and four brothers, Julian Johnston, Venable Montgomery, Chester Irl and Edward Bolivar.

Surviving him is his wife, Mildred Hotinger Huffman of 60 years (married in 1955); a daughter and son-in-law, Vickie Lynne and Donald Ford of Buchanan; one son, Perry Johnston Huffman of Lexington; two grandchildren, Alyssa Cole Ford and Brycen Huffman Ford, whom he adored; two nieces, Patricia Petty of Trinity, N.C., and Linda White of Thomasville, N.C.; five nephews, Robert Tigner of Arlington and Jay Tigner of Oakton, Chester Huffman and Phil Huffman of New Kent and Ward Huffman of Lexington.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. in Oxford Presbyterian Church Tuesday, February 3, 2015, with Dr. Horace Douty and Rev. Bart Hellmuth officiating. Burial will follow in the Oxford Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the following, any one of your choice: Oxford Cemetery Fund, 143 Oxford Lane, Lexington, VA 24450; Effinger Rescue Squad, 2824 Collierstown Road, Lexington, VA 24450; Altzheimers Association, 2728 Colonial Ave., Ste. 2 Roanoke, VA 24015; Rockbridge Area Hospice, 315 Myers St., Lexington, VA 24450; Lexington Fire Dept., 708 Main St., Lexington, VA 24450. There will be no visitation at the funeral home, but family and friends will be received at their residence from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, February 2, 2015, and after the service on Tuesday at Oxford Presbyterian Church.
