Iron Gate Native Was Former Kroger Meat Department Clerk

Stella Louise Unroe Lowman, age 88, of 540 Prospect Walk, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany, Low Moor.

She was born May 1, 1926 in Iron Gate, Virginia, to the late William Alexander and Mary Maggie Painter Unroe.

She was a hard worker throughout her life, and retired from Kroger Co. as a meat department clerk after forty years of service.

She was a member of Iron Gate Baptist Church, and a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to all.

She was a great cook who enjoyed cooking for her big family dinners.

In addition to her parents, Stella was preceded in death by her husband, James Washington "Turk" Lowman in 1990; a grandson, Phillip Wayne Lowman; two sisters, Hallie Bliss and Mildred Campbell; and six brothers, Carl Unroe, Pete Unroe, Harmon Unroe, Garland Unroe, Frank Unroe and Vincent Unroe.

She is survived by two sons, Kenny Lowman and wife, Connie of Clifton Forge, and Randy Lowman and wife, Suzie of Newcastle; a sister, Rita Unroe of Iron Gate; two sisters-in-law, Nancy Unroe and Lillie Shires, both of Iron Gate; four grandsons, Jason Lowman and wife, Alana of Clifton Forge, Matthew Lowman and wife, Angela of Newcastle, Morgan Lowman and wife, Haley of Daleville, and Bruce Lowman and wife, Tempest of Clifton Forge; ten great grandchildren, Keely, Kellen, Kiera, Reed, Cora, Mason, Kieren, Ally, Claire, and Halen; and a number of loving nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Marilyn "Bo" Bliss.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 8, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge, with Reverend Hunter Hale and Reverend Lester Kennedy officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, Clifton Forge.

The family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the home of Kenny and Connie Lowman, 613 Commercial Ave, Clifton Forge, VA. The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Iron Gate Baptist Church, 716 Market Ave, Iron Gate, VA 24448.
