Former Clifton Forge Police Officer Dies At Age 78

James Ralph (Jack) Nicely, Jr., age 78, of 204 Meadowdale Road, Clifton Forge, Virginia, died Monday, March 9, 2015 at LewisGale Hospital - Alleghany, Low Moor.

Jack was born December 7, 1936 in Alleghany County to the late James Ralph Nicely, Sr. and Virginia Reba Conner Nicely.

He was a retired officer for the Clifton Forge Police Department and later worked for the Clifton Forge Public Works Department.

He was a member of the Central Advent Christian Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Altice Nicely in January of 2015, and a brother, Ermon David Nicely.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Beth Broughman and husband, Kippy of Clifton Forge; two sons, Darren Nicely and wife, Susan of Clifton Forge, and Mike Nicely and wife, Carol Growden of Cumberland, MD; six sisters, Alma Jean "Peggy" Nicely of Clifton Forge, Betty Bottenfield and husband, Bryan of Verona, Barbara Hayse and husband, Jack of Covington, Virginia "Jenny" Crowder and husband, Gerald of Clifton Forge, Shirley McCoy and husband, Cecil of Millboro, and Betty Lou Campbell of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Christina Wiseman, Heather Richmond, Justin Nicely, Tyler Broughman, and Brian Broughman; three great grandchildren, Katelyn Ailstock, Madison Wiseman, and Taylor Nicely; a great great granddaughter, Kyla Brisendine; and special friends, Richard Paxton and Earnest Matheny.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Pastor Gene Ayers officiating.

In keeping with his wishes, Jack's body will be cremated following the service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, evening from 5:30 p.m. until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home and other times at the residence, 204 Meadowdale Road, Clifton Forge, VA.

The family suggests memorial tributes take the form of contributions to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, P. O. Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
